I grew up in Michigan and earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan-Flint. I moved to Texas in 1982 where I taught for 5 years and received my master’s degree from Baylor University. I moved to California in 1989 and have worked in the Ontario-Montclair School District as a teacher and administrator until 2018. I received my administrative credential from the University of California, Riverside. I have worked at the University of La Verne since January 2019.

My wife, Robyn, and I have been married for 34 years. She was an elementary teacher in Upland. We have one daughter who went through the Upland School District and graduated from UHS. Our daughter was in choir, and we were active choir parents. She graduated from CSU Stanislaus with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and has a master’s degree in psychology. She is currently working for the school as a Child Care Coordinator. We are active in many school and community groups such as animal rescue, PTA, and Foothill Family Shelter. I play in a big band and substitute with the Claremont Symphony.

I love to run, bike, swim, and exercise in general. You may have seen me running up and down Euclid or riding along the Pacific Electric trail. Physical fitness is important to me and my family.

My background as a teacher and administrator has helped me in my role as a school board member. I have a strong background in school finance and budgeting. I never want Upland schools to suffer through the pain of near bankruptcy, frozen salaries, and slashed budgets that we suffered after the 2007 recession. Additionally, the district Local Control Accountability Plan, part of the state’s Local Control Funding Formula, requires a review of programs and outcomes; I will analyze the effectiveness of programs and the budgets that fund those programs. Finally, I have current knowledge of the trends in curriculum, instruction, and how students learn. It is important to be a team player working to ensure the district provides every student with the highest quality education.
